Chattanooga Craft Beer Scene

So, you just have time for a day trip and all you can think about is a cold, frothy BEER? Well, you are not alone! We had the same idea, so we figured we would do all the work for you, and make our own overnight tours!

Now you can check out all our local craft beer scene with our Craft Beer Tour Guides….and the first up is Chattanooga! Go for a visit this weekend and see what this growing TN craft beer gem of a city has to offer!

(NOTE: you can’t do it ALL in one overnight trip, so watch for future Tennessee craft beer tours to mix it up!)

Chattanooga Craft Beer Tour

 1. Imbibe: (Beer, Wine & Sprits Store) 3:00pm

First stop is not to be missed. Hit these guys up about 3pm before your start your night. There’s a lot of great Chattanooga craft beer that you can’t get in other towns, so do your homework before you start drinking. Get prepared and grab some special pours here at Imbibe. Then stash your treasures in your hotel room at The Chattanoogan and get ready to start your night!

 Time: 0.5 hours

2. Brewhaus: 3:30 PM

First, take a Lyft ride over to Brewhaus. A Chattanooga institution, and well earned.  They were doing rotating draft before anyone in town, so there is ALWAYS something interesting on tap.

Combine that great variety with awesome food and you are in for a treat.  If you just want a snack, go for the Kraut Balls or Fried Pretzel. Both pair perfectly with their House-made mustards, and they are delicious.

If you need more food, the Curry Wurst is so good it
has ruined me for many other things in town.  If curry scares you, (and it won’t in this dish) you can go with the Spaetzel & Brat.  The brats are delicious and the spaetzel is the German equivalent of mac n’ cheese, so how can you go wrong. Plus, it’s a hearty food base for a night of drinking
, and it’s really tasty.

Time: 1.5 hours

3. Tremont: 5:00pm

Oh, Tremont, land of burgers and tasty things.  Recently remodeled to absorb the restaurant next door, Tremont has maintained the cozy atmosphere while adding a bunch of new seating.  Awesome beer selection, and you should really consider another snack or snagging late night food here.  Best burgers in town, and tons of people make this a really cool place to hand and wind down your night.

Time: 1 hours

4. Hutton & Smith:  6:00PM

Best time to hit them is on Friday or Saturday, snag a spot at the bar.  (Note: If you go during the week, they open at 5pm.)

Lots of crowd favorites here, I’d recommend starting with the nitro offering they have.  Right now it’s a coffee vanilla stout and it may be one of my favorite things ever.  Heavy way to start the night, but will get you off on the right foot.  Igneous IPA great for the hopheads, my go-to is their Rope Gun Rye if you like a little spice with your hops.  They also do flights if you want to sample the goods, and if you LOVE their stuff, bring a iced down cooler and snag a crowler (32 Oz Can Growler) of their beer.

Time: 1.5 hours

5. Terminal Brewhouse: 7:30 PM

Next grab a quick 7-minute Lyft ride from Brewhaus over to Terminal Brewhouse.

Enjoy their rooftop patio seating and grab one of their many options on tap. They are brewed right there on premise, and have a good variety of tasty options. Try their Belgian White or West Coast IPA currently on draft or any of their seasonal beers!  After your beer, head down the back steps and walk all the way across the parking lot and you will discover the Flying Squirrel Bar.

Time: 1 hour

6. Flying Squirrel: 8:30 PM

If you get there early, you can get a sweet spot at the bar or in the upstairs lounge.  No tap handles, you are going to have to go through the list of beers and really put some thought into what you’re looking for.  Not really much run of the mill stuff here, so you’ll be ordering on beer style and brewery trust.  Tapas style small plates are fantastic.  Garlic Fries and a juicy tropical IPA?  Yes please.

Time: 2 hours

7. The Chattanoogan: 10:30 PM

So you’re done for the night? Well it’s just quick walk back to your hotel or by Lyft only a couple minutes—cause your hotel is just down the street! And if you aren’t quite ready for sleep and still want a late night drink, check out the Chattanoogan’s current craft beer offerings, and relax in one of their many lounge spots. You can fill out your room service card for breakfast in bed or you can enjoy their buffet complete with omelette and waffle bar!

Time: 1 hour

8. Bitter Alibi: 10:00 AM

If brunch is a little more your style (which it is mine), drive just about one minute or walk about 6 minutes to Bitter Alibi. You can grab rebound beer from one of their many craft beer options or Bloody Mary—all delicious. And my choice for brunch, their chorizo breakfast burrito!

*Bitter Alibi also open till 2, so if you’re a night owl, swing by late night for fantastic canned beer selections and a fast rotating draft wall!  There is something for everyone from IPA’s to sours.  Also, they just opened up a cocktail bar on the third floor.  Very much for the person who likes to find that hidden gem.  Chill out and relax.  Grab a beer and toast all that you saw, and that which you cannot unsee while in Chattanooga!  Time: 2 hours
