Pennington Distilling Plans “Hardest Harvest” Party on October 17 to Introduce New Davidson Reserve Rye and Plans for Distillery Upgrades

Public invited for an evening of food, drink, music and samples of new products

Following up on the announcement of their first aged whiskey product, Davidson Reserve Rye, Pennington Distilling Co. will open the doors of their facility at 900 44th Ave N, Nashville, TN 37209 for a “Hardest Harvest” party from 6:00 until 10:00 pm on Tuesday October 17. The event will be a celebration of the release of Pennington Distilling Co.’s new rye whiskey and offer visitors an opportunity to tour the distillery while enjoying food, drinks and music.

Owners and co-founders Jenny and Jeff Pennington will welcome guests on the third anniversary of first laying their whiskey in oak barrels in 2014. “We’re calling it ‘Hardest Harvest’ as a celebration of the fall harvest and because waiting for this product to mature for release has been the hardest thing we’ve ever done,” explains Jeff. “We had actually planned to wait even longer before bottling, but as we tasted the rye in the barrels along the way, we decided that it was drinking great right now and is ready to share.”

Davidson Reserve Rye is just the first of several aged Tennessee whiskey and bourbon products that the Penningtons plan to release over the next couple of years, along with the other brands under the Pennington Distilling Co. umbrella that include Pickers Vodka, Whisper Creek Tennessee Sipping Cream, Walton’s Vodka, Pennington’s Flavored Rye and Crafted Cordials. Jenny Pennington is proud of the company’s entire line of products. “We’re gratified by the great success we’ve had with our previous spirits that were marketed under the SPEAKeasy name, but now that we’re ready to officially enter the whiskey business, it’s time to share them all under our family name.”

The poster for the “Hardest Harvest” party features an illustration of the Pennington’s pet and official distillery dog, Shafer. The good girl is waiting patiently while a tiny barrel of whiskey balances on her nose like a dog treat, but come October 17 neither she nor the attendees to the party will have to wait any longer. Tickets to the event are $10 and are available at the official event website at www.hardestharvest.com. In addition to being among the first to sample Davidson Reserve Rye, attendees will also have the opportunity to purchase the first edition releases of whiskey on-site. Bottles may also be reserved in advance at the event website. Davidson Reserve Rye will begin shipping out to retail stores in Nashville beginning October 18.

The “Hardest Harvest” offers a lot more than just whiskey tasting, with local breweries selling their products at multiple bars, cocktails offered featuring Davidson Reserve and other Pennington Distilling products plus “live fire” cooking demonstrations and food for sale from local restaurant favorite Urban Grub. The $10 admission includes one food and drink token, and additional tokens will be available for sale to purchase more comestibles.

“Hardest Harvest” event radio partner Lightning 100 has arranged for live entertainment with a soul-packed local lineup featuring The Future and The VooDoo Fix as opening musical acts. Charles “Wigg” Walker, featuring Guthrie Trapp and Friends, will be the headliner for the evening. Trapp is known as one of the hottest guitar-slingers in town, and Walker has been a fixture in the soul and R&B scene for decades.

Rhizome Productions is producing the 21+ event, and dogs are welcome as long as they are leashed so that Shafer doesn’t get too jealous. Valet parking will be available, but the use of ride-sharing services is strongly encouraged.

The Penningtons will also share renderings of their planned expansion of the distillery which will include a new public-facing portion of the operation constructed from shipping containers and featuring a multi-level space with multiple tasting areas, private event space and a rooftop bar with views of downtown Nashville. Planned for a spring 2018 opening, visitors will enjoy live music, cocktails, local beer and will be able to shop in a large retail shop offering gifts and bottles.

Jeff Pennington is enthused about the future of the distillery and the neighborhood. “With the growth of The Nations, we’re so excited to invite friends into our home to see and taste what we’ve been working on. Now that we’ve acquired the lot next door to expand our facility, we really want Pennington Distilling Co. to become a destination for our neighbors and visitors from all over!”
