Homegrown Taproom & Marketplace opened its doors last year in an unassuming strip mall in Donelson, bringing local and regional craft beer and food to the expanding neighborhood 15-minutes East of downtown Nashville. With a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, Homegrown has quickly become a neighborhood hangout for locals and travelers alike and helps the community live up to its “hip” status.unnamed-2

Homegrown carefully chooses beers for their 24 taps. Offering a wide variety of options for every beer lover, they have had nearly 500 distinct beers on tap since opening 14 months ago. In addition to supporting the fine craft brewers in Tennessee and the Southeast region, they frequently offer beers from other parts of the country on their “Tourist Taps.” The constants on the wall include a rotating cider and cold brewed coffee on nitro supplied by Eighth and Roast. Also offered are gluten free beers and a non-alcoholic beer. You can find the most up-to-date beer menu on their website, Facebook page, and Untappd.

The food at Homegrown is not your typical bar fare. They take it up several notches, offering sandwiches, salads, soups, and heartier options made with locally made/grown ingredients as much as possible. True to their name, they offer dishes we all grew up on with slight improvements to the recipe without getting too fancy. In the case of Lucy’s chicken salad and Hammond’s potato salad, no changes were made as homage to their namesakes. The Jackson roast beef sandwich, topped with melted horseradish cheddar and banana peppers and served with a side of au jus, is a salute to special friend that made a positive change in the world and his Nashville community. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the sandwich are donated to the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in honor of Todd who lost his battle with brain cancer in 2014.

If that wasn’t enough, Homegrown also sells local meat, cheese, eggs, and other items to complete their vision of both taproom and marketplace. Homegrown is a destination that’s worth the visit. With unique food options, plenty of beers you’ve yet to try and live music from artists in the neighborhood, it’s a place for “homies” of all ages.
