Regional homebrewers compete for $10,000 at inaugural

Hoppy Possum: Southern Brewers Cup

JOHNSON CITY, TN – The first ever Hoppy Possum: Southern Brewers Cup will take place September 28th at TVA Credit Union Ballpark in Johnson City, TN. Hoppy Possum’s mission is to showcase homebrew culture and creativity to craft beer lovers from near and far. Festival organizers will use a new hybrid festival format that keeps the best aspects of a beer festival (fancy tasting glasses, unlimited tastings, great music, and unique food trucks) and combines it with a home brew competition.

The best homebrewers from across the region will compete for $10,000 in cash prizes. It costs nothing to compete except a brewers time and beer. Attendees will pay a gate fee and enjoy unlimited tastings and festival activities all afternoon. Festival goers are encouraged to vote for the beers they like best, the top 5 entries will move on to a final judging panel.

“Craft beer enthusiasts are always looking for new, exciting, rare, or cutting edge beer. Hoppy Possum offers just that,” said festival director, Gavin Andrews, “there’ll be beers they have never tasted before, and likely never will again. It’s something beer lovers want and get excited about.” The “people’s choice” format ensures brewers will bring particularly exciting and experimental creations in an effort to stand out among the expected 100+ beers.

Festival organizers are currently accepting applications to compete and serve at the festival. Hoppy Possum: Southern Brewers Cup will take place September 28th, 2019. Early bird tickets are also on sale now.
